Western Digital - Commercial Counsel Legal

As the Commercial Legal Counsel you will support commercial matters in the EMEA Region. You will provide high-quality legal counsel and support for Western Digital’s Sales, Procurement, and other commercial activities in the region. You will be part of the larger ‘Global Technology & Commercial Legal Service Team’ reporting into the Assistant General Counsel EMEA. This role can be based from either our office in London or Leatherhead.


  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and finalising commercial contracts, including, but not limited to, non-disclosure agreements, product sales agreements, distribution agreements, amendments, and other business/legal documents as well as reviewing distribution programs, retail programs, and other commercial programs.

  • Identifying and advising internal clients on risks associated with each transaction and proposing practical/strategic risk mitigation strategies in connection with commercial transactions.

  • Providing general regional legal support on other matters as they arise, including IP, antitrust and litigation.

  • Working on special projects, as needed.

  • Occasional overseas travel.


  • 2-5 years PQE, trained at a reputable firm with subsequent experience either in-house or in private practice

  • Law degree from a reputable EU University

  • Admission to practice in a EU jurisdiction


  • Experience working in (or with) technology companies or in the technology industry.

  • Basic knowledge of EU Consumers, Competition and IP laws.

  • Track record of providing high-quality, timely results on a wide variety of commercial matters.

  • Ability to effectively identify goals and communicate and identify risks and proposed go-forward strategies with internal business clients.


  • Solution oriented and highly organised.

  • Team player who is able to work independently and across different time zones.

  • Candidate will be self-motivated, results driven, resourceful and enthusiastic.

  • Self-starter who takes ownership of work and demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.

  • Speak effectively one-on-one and to small groups of internal and external parties.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Strong attention to details and strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality of work.

  • Conduct business in an ethical manner, presenting a credible image

  • Fluent English (both verbally and written)

  • Additional language skills are a plus (preferably German and/or Russian)
