The London Russian Music Academy seeks a highly qualified, experienced and committed concert pianist for the position of the Piano teacher for advanced level pupils (Grade 8+), Accompanist and Music Coordinator.
The pupils of the LRMA have access to a professional music education from their early years. When they join the School, they become part of a big "musical family" for which music is a way of existence rather than merely another subject to study. Our programme of study is based on the Russian system and includes two instrumental lessons per week, solfeggio, harmony, composition, chamber music and choral training. It also incorporates the methodology of the British system and the ABRSM syllabusAll our teachers are either educated in the Russian pedagogical tradition or are familiar with it. Many of our teachers are prize-winners of international music competitions and combine teaching at the school with flourishing concert careers.
Teaching piano to advanced level pupils (Grade 8 +) and coaching chamber ensembles at this level; preparing pupils for public concerts and rehearsing with pianists and other instrumentalists; accompanying at public concerts, including concerts at the prestigious concert venues and outreach performances; coordinating music programmes and concert programmes; teaching Music Theory, Harmony and Aural components of the ARBSM syllabus; giving concert performances as part of LRMA professional concert series; providing piano “illustrations” at the Music History lesson and teaching Keyboard Skills course for advanced pupils.
Required Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate will have:
extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the Eastern European approach to music, namely the importance placed on providing solid technical foundation and studying a broad repertoire;
an in-depth knowledge of the advanced level piano and chamber music repertoire;
extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the ABRSM methodology and syllabus;
extensive experience in accompanying instrumentalists at lessons and public concerts and excellent sight-reading skills with ability to sight-read the advanced repertoire on the spot;
an in-depth knowledge of Music Theory, Harmony and History;
at least 10 years of concert career and teaching experience in both Russian and Western European systems, teaching committed and motivated pupils at advanced level and accompanying advanced level instrumentalists;· been educated at a Russian or ex-Soviet conservatoire and hold an MA degree from the RAM, RCM or GSMD;
it is desirable that the applicant would be a winner of an International piano competition;· have had extensive experience of taking responsibility for the quick progress of exceptionally gifted pupils;
have ability to inspire pupils to apply for competitions, festivals, concerts and scholarships and have experience in preparing them for such competitions, festivals, concerts and auditions;· experience in preparing pupils for ABRSM exams at Distinction level;· experience in devising teaching programmes and concert programmes and be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;· have a fluent command of Russian and English language; working knowledge of French would be an advantage;
hold a UK driving licence.
Teachers need to be able to travel around London, although the majority of our pupils are based in North West and Central London. Teachers are also required to work at our Sunday school, currently based at St. Marylebone C.E. School.
£36,000 based on 25 hours week
