Gazprom Marketing & Trading - Senior Strategy Advisor

GM&T’s Strategy Team is seeking a Senior Strategy Advisor for the successful development of GM&T’s Business, the development of GM&T’s Corporate Strategy and to support the Gazprom Group.

The Department is organised as a central Strategy team with demand for an additional Senior Strategy Advisor within this structure that leads on company-wide strategy projects and provides support on business change and transactions as required. The Strategy Team is situated within the Office of Strategic Management, which includes Global Strategy and Corporate Affairs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Projects:

  • Process management of individual strategic projects, in line with company governance processes
  • Develop business cases to structure/frame strategic projects and develop initial hypotheses
  • Conduct market analysis and research to support initial hypotheses with tangible evidence
  • Deliver financial modelling and valuation, strategic and due diligence analysis
  • Maintain clear communication with project key-stakeholders across GM&T
  • Create executive and board-ready supporting materials, such as presentations and word documents
  • Present project updates and outcomes to key-stakeholders

Strategy Development:

  • Develop the strategic elements of the annual strategic business plan
  • Liaise with key stakeholders within the business units, regions and supporting functions
  • Create and facilitate meetings and workshops
  • Contribute to the commercial/economic modelling to assess and challenge the business plan
  • Create board-ready supporting materials, such as presentations and word documents

Company Intelligence:

  • Monitor market developments through media coverage, peer reporting and industry events
  • Identify key strategic issues that may impact GM&T for wider communication
  • Ad-hoc research to develop strategic insights to issues raised by GM&T and its businesses
  • Contribute to the weekly news reporting

  • Strong technical skills; a deep understanding of and track record in:
  • Developing commercial strategies which draw on well grounded information and experience
  • Application of strategic consulting techniques/frameworks to structure, analyse and communicate
  • Delivering commercial initiatives or other relevant projects from conception to implementation
  • Problem solving capabilities; from framing the challenge through to solution implementation
  • Excellent commercial insight and researching competencies
  • Financial analysis skills including business modelling and valuation techniques
  • Management and interpersonal skills, demonstrated abilities:
  • Stakeholder management: building strong, cooperative and productive relationships in the key teams involved in the planning and decision processes
  • Engagement: able to operate at a senior level and influence key decision makers on sometimes difficult topics through constructive communication and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in a strategy advisory role, either in strategy consulting or within an internal strategy team
  • Experience in working on strategic projects, business unit strategy and / or corporate strategy
  • Stakeholder management – experience of engaging with Heads of Businesses and Executive management
  • Understanding of the energy industry, with pre-exposure across commodities trading and origination being a distinct advantage

Education

  • Minimum good first degree (2.1 or above) in an analytical discipline
  • An MBA or equivalent would be an advantage
  • Fluent in English (other languages, especially Russian, would be an advantage)
