About the International Projects Group
Within BDO, the International Projects Group focuses on assignments in developing nations and emerging markets, working principally for bi- and multi-lateral agencies such as the World Bank and DFID. Our projects cover such areas as public financial management, public sector governance, private sector development, internal and external audit, and financial sector development.
About the PFM and Governance Team
We are a small team interested in how governments work and how they can work better. At the heart of our work is Public Financial Management (PFM) reform: improving the ways in which developing country governments budget, spend, track, and raise public funds to ensure that services are properly delivered. Other areas of interest for us are revenue reform, anti-corruption and fiduciary risk, civil service reform, local/subnational governance, centre of government reform, and others. In our work, we maintain a lively intellectual curiosity and a commitment to making governance work for the poorest. Currently we are delivering projects in the Middle East, East Africa, the Balkans, and the Caribbean.
We are seeking to recruit a Consultant to join the PFM and Governance team within IPG to win and deliver technical assistance projects funded by development partners (including DFID, FCO, EU, World Bank and others). Candidates should have a track record in business development and supporting governance programming in developing countries.
The role will provide the opportunity to lead on PFM and Governance proposals throughout the full business development cycle, from early prospect identification through to proposal submission. This will involve opportunities to influence and contribute to our pipeline, including advocating for the pursuit of projects within your personal areas of interest. There are also immediate opportunities to take on project management responsibilities within our existing portfolio of projects.
The core IPG team is based in London with regular travel to the field, including travel to fragile and conflict affected states.
You have an interest in and some knowledge and experience in one or more thematic areas related to governance and government reform, as well as a proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds. You have a successful track record in business development as well as an interest in managing governance projects for high-quality delivery. You have some experience in managing projects in developing countries. We are looking for someone enthusiastic, energetic, and committed to excellence in all their work.
We seek the following skills:
A post-graduate degree in a relevant field;
Outstanding English communication skills, both written and oral, and additional languages preferred, especially French, Arabic, Russian, or Farsi;
Excellent inter-personal and team-work skills;
Ability to work independently and in multicultural teams;
Willingness to travel, including to fragile and conflict affected states.
Demonstrable knowledge of and interest in governance-related programming within international development;
Demonstrated experience of winning and delivering client-focussed work;
Experience of working in developing countries.
