BBC - Journalist (TV)

Job Introduction

  • BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. 
  • BBC Russian is one of the largest of BBC’s language services. With a growing audience, it broadcasts on TV and via the Internet and has an active social media presence. The Service has currently launched a number of new, exciting projects across broadcasting platforms. 
  • The service’s output aims to make international news relevant to a Russian audience, and bring international perspectives to bear on Russian and FSU developments. It aims to report in a lively and engaging fashion, and interactivity forms a large part of its content across all platforms. 
  • The Service is boosting its TV output to offer Russian speaking audience a variety of programmes and formats to meet the needs of our diverse audiences. This is happening in parallel with further development of BBC Russian Service digital video formats and content.

Main Responsibilities

  • Joining a team of talented multimedia journalists, you will work on the regular BBC News Russian TV bulletin. You will be involved in all stages of production – from research and scripting to editing and on-air presentation. 
  • Working with different sources, you will cover a wide range of stories, from hard news to in-depth analysis and human-interest stories. 
  • In this varied and exciting role you will conduct interviews, contribute to originating and commissioning stories, as well as reversioning content and creating video teasers. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist with knowledge of TV/video production techniques. You will have an engaging presentation style, a good broadcast voice and will be used to working in a live 24 hour newsroom environment. 
  • It is essential that applicants are fluent in Russian, both written and spoken. 
  • Finally, you will have a wide and up-to-date familiarity with the areas to which the Russian service broadcasts and extensive knowledge of the media situation and the way it is developing. In addition, you will have an excellent knowledge of current affairs in Russia and the wider region.

Salary up to £39,950 (including all allowances), depending on experienc.
