What is this internship about?
The intern will report to the digital learning specialist who is currently managing learning analytics, working on both solutions and development approaches.
Solutions-oriented approach: The intern will work with the digital learning specialist to progressively automate data collection, reconciliation, and analysis tasks currently being performed manually.
Replicate an existing process used to produce data needed by the course team.
Automate this process while ensuring that the output is fit for purpose.
Demonstrate that this automated approach can be performed reliably during course production.
Propose ways to improve the speed, quality, and/or relevance of the solution.
The digital learning specialist will review each proposed solution and request modifications if necessary, until the solution is fit for purpose.
If the automated solution fails to meet the requirements, the intern will perform this task manually in a timely manner, up to or above the same standard as the current solution previously in place.
Once this has been achieved, the intern will be asked to produce the data when it is needed by the course team for all of the courses in production.
Development-based approach: Alongside the solutions-oriented approach, the intern will work on the architecture, management, and analysis toward the establishment of a system to meet data needs.
Develop and deliver a usable, effective data architecture that is fit for purpose.
Develop a common application form that can be used for all Scholar programme courses.
Revise, improve, and harmonize means (forms, web scraping, analytics) used to collect data across the platforms used.
Ensure that the data architecture minimizes inefficiencies or overhead for the course team
Clean, reconcile, and merge existing and incoming data sets for both current use and future use in a structured data base.
Respond promptly to requests for specific data collated from existing records, preferably using automation.
Create real-time dashboards showing data flows in relevant, meaningful ways that can be used by the team to make better decisions
The intern will ensure that standards and recommendations by SOLAR are applied and used to the fullest extent.

Minimum qualifications, experience and capabilities
Diploma, certificate, and/or demonstrated experience with data management.
Mastery of Excel and at least one data analysis tool (R preferred).
Excellent knowledge of SQL or a modern database used in web applications.
Experience with cleaning, handling, and managing semi-structured data flows.
Excellent analytical and synthesis skills.
Experience in data analysis for education or other social sciences.
Prior experience in data management specifically for humanitarian, global health and/or development learning, education, and training.
Prior field experience in humanitarian, global health and/or development work.
