Fieldwork assistant

Your mission :
The Stream Biofilm and Ecosystem Research Laboratory (SBER) of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland invites applications for a Field Assistant that will be part of project “Vanishing Glaciers”. This project aims to study the microbial life in the glacier-fed streams around the world. See https://actu.epfl.ch/news/epfl-scientists-set-out-to-explore-microbial-life-/ for further information.

Main duties and responsibilities include :
The successful applicant is expected to conduct fieldwork under difficult outdoor conditions. The candidate must be willing to spend a substantial proportion of her/his time travelling to and working in remote mountainous regions around the globe throughout the year. Between expeditions, the candidate is expected to support laboratory analyses at EPFL in Lausanne.
She/he will be part of the Vanishing Glaciers expeditions. A background in glaciology, remote sensing and/or GIS will be a major asset. The candidate must be fluent in English; proficiency in other languages such as Spanish or Russian will be helpful. The successful candidate is an excellent team player with a demonstrated high stress tolerance when working in remote locations.
